A Clayton’s Secretary Achieves Again!

Most of you will know by now, that I had entered again for the Australian Achievers Award in the Secretarial section.  I didn’t win this year, but I was the runner up.  It was interesting to note that my score this year was very close to last year’s but not quite ‘up there’ enough.  However, I want to thank those who participated in this awards process – it is always good to assess how things are going and how your business is perceived by others.  If you would like to know more about this award please visit the website listed at the top of the Web Links list under Awards.  There is probably a category that suits your business and you may be the next award winner!

Setting Goals
Now is the time for new beginnings, making fresh starts, establishing new routines and ideas, time to make up for the things we intended in the past year but didn’t achieve.

Do you make resolutions for the year?  I don’t, but I do set goals and print them off, usually in colour and stick it on my office wall, just to the side of my computer monitor so I can see my goals every single day.

Do you know the power of having your goals written down and in front of you so you can see them every day?  One of my personal goals last year was to become an accredited speaker.  Another was to achieve a number of speaking engagements throughout the year.  A third was to publish my first book.  I achieved all three!

If you didn’t achieve a goal that doesn’t mean you’ve failed!  It just means you need to reset the time scale for it.  We have some goals in place for our network, aimed at developing our skills further and our professionalism so that you, our client, will always get the best possible service.   Some processes are still being put in place and we hope to make an announcement in the early part of this year.  So, whilst it hasn’t happened as quickly as I would like, it is moving forward – in the right direction!!!

What are your goals for 2001?  Have you set any?  Have you written them down?  Because, if you haven’t, you need to consider just how serious you are about them, and do something – write them down!!!

Did you know???

That we have members in our network who can do translations for you?  One of the jobs that came through after the Sydney radio interview was for translation work in 7 different languages for a company that will be exporting its products.  Translations were needed for their packaging.

If you have a need for translation work, please do get in touch with us as we can assist you!  If we don’t have the language you want then we will make enquiries for you and find a suitable service.

Further, if you need to liaise with businesses in other countries we can supply secretarial/admin support for you in that country – especially if you feel you’d like to develop a ‘presence’ in that area.  Contact our office for more details!

Media Exposure
Kathie was recently interviewed on a radio station in Sydney, resulting in enquiries for services with our NSW members.

We were recently profiled in the Small Business Information website at http://sbinformation.about.com/smallbusiness/
sbinformation/library/weekly/aa112600a.htm
.
What is special about this article is that this is an American magazine online and, by their own admission, they don’t often do articles on businesses outside of America.  There has since been contact from an organisation in USA looking to utilise our services.

Another radio interview took place on 2nd January on Radio 3AK, 1503am Melbourne.  This one came out of the blue.  They rang me in the morning saying they needed someone to motivate their listeners for the New Year and would I be interested in saying something about setting goals?  I accepted the invitation and they rang back at 12.30pm for a 15-minute interview.  They even allowed promotion of our website.  If you keep making contacts and promote your own business, you never know what will come of that!  Can we help you promote?

Planning for your bills:
I visited the Society of CPAs online site at http://www.cpaonline.com.au/ which is worth visiting.  At the Information Centre they have some advice for budgeting for 2001, and, in particular, business planning.   60% of small businesses are reported as not having a business plan and the Society advises to start planning for those bills that are regular.  Know what time of month they are due and how they fit into your pay or invoicing cycle.  A simple spreadsheet can be set up to track your income and expenditure – it doesn’t have to be in a complicated bookkeeping program that only your admin support can handle.  I found some interesting items to read at this site, and whilst I did know a good portion, it is good to revisit, rethink, and replan.
